Dr Rosie Rushton is a music facilitator and researcher based in the West Midlands, where she has established
herself as a specialist in music provision for individuals with learning disabilities. Collaborating in projects with music hubs, schools, charities and local communities, Rosie aims to ensure her practice is research informed, and her research relevant to practice.
Rosie has a keen interest in research into music education, disability and inclusivity. Her ESRC funded PhD focused on developing the Musical Play Framework, using participatory research methods, to support opportunities for playfulness for people with profound intellectual and multiple disabilities. Rosie is currently disseminating findings from her research to both academic and non-academic audiences internationally. Shortlisted for the National Association of Special Educational Needs (NASEN) Inspirational Teacher of the Year Award, Rosie is passionate about ensuring that all children have access to meaningful and relevant musical opportunities.
Rosie currently holds the posts of Specialist Lecturer at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, and Post-Doctoral Research Fellow at the University of Birmingham. In 2024 Rosie was awarded honorary membership of the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire for her significant contributions to the field of music, disability and education.
